SSM Franciscan Courts is the retirement community of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother. Home to 40 Sisters, this vibrant living center was built in 1989 and remodeled in 2002, with the goal of providing a nurturing, sacred and creatively beautiful atmosphere with opportunity for peaceful reflection.
This beautiful facility includes 20 skilled nursing units, 20 assisted living units, 6 independent living units and 8 guest suites. The suites are arranged into five neighborhoods or “Courts” – Mount Carmel, Alverno Court, Assisi Court, Nazareth House and the guest wing. Each Court has 6 to 16 Sisters living there, and all Courts are connected by a main hallway that circles through the building.
The open lobby area greets visitors and provides space for Sisters to meet with staff and guests and spend time together while observing the beautiful outdoor courtyard and fountain. Areas such as the coffee bistro, reflection pool, fireplace lounges, activity kitchens and dining hall offer additional homelike spaces for Sisters to gather and enjoy each other’s company.
SSM Franciscan Courts is a spiritual campus that was created based on the Franciscan values of peace, simplicity, unity and a presence of the sacred in all of life. Visitors experience a feeling of awe, inspiration and peace during their time at the Courts.
The St. Clare of Assisi Region’s Administration offices are located adjacent to SSM Franciscan Courts, in the same building.
